Has a child ever made a random comment to you that changed your life for the better?

[Answered on Quora.com by Lillie Tidwell]

We had visitors at church one Sunday. I always provide my young children with paper and pens to color or draw with so they don’t become bored during church. The visitors sat next to us. There were young children. I asked their mother if I could share my children’s pens and paper and she approved and thanked me. I passed out the supplies. The oldest child (approximately 5 years old) smiled the sweetest smile at me, thanked me for the pens and paper and said “You are so very kind!”. That small comment touched my heart in such a big way!

Now, I try very, very hard to do at least one kind thing for a stranger every day. It may be nothing more than a compliment, but, that compliment can make someone’s day.

Every Christmas, I order dozens of small, wooden Christmas ornaments. I keep these in my car and randomly pass them out. I had some in my handbag and was in a convenience store. The clerk seemed to be having a rough day. I pulled out one of the ornaments and slid it across the counter to her. Her entire demeanor instantly changed! She looked up at me and asked that I sign the back of the ornament. She said “I never want to forget the lady that made my day so much better!”.

It only takes a moment to change someone’s day. Be kind.
